  • Hypocrite!

Hypocrisy is a self-implicating accusation.  One cannot accuse one of hypocrisy without being guilty of the same.

“You hypocrite!  You did something other than what you espoused!”  It’s an accusation of inconsistency, which is, at base, an accusation of being imperfect.

It is the only accusation available to someone ethically post-modern, however.  It is, really, the only cultural “sin” anymore.  When you abandon universals, all you have available is watching for consistency at the one-person level.  Maybe this is a kind of ethical solipsism?

You don’t need the sin of hypocrisy when other sins are available to you.  (So to speak.)

Failure to do X, can be in and of itself, wrong.  But not if you’ve done away with the concept of wrongness.

Hypocrisy is the sin of Failing to do X when you said you wanted to do Y.

Which means, personally, I am unmoved by any handwringing over hypocrisy.  I’m inconsistent.  It’s my base fault.
